In a letter addressed to the Ministry of Industries and Production, the PSM management requested the intervention of SIFC to address the issues related to the illegal occupation of lands and the failure of the Sindh government to find a solution.
The letter emphasized the necessity for the ministry to engage in discussions with the Sindh government to resolve the billion-rupee land disputes concerning PSM. It also underscored the importance of the SIFC's top committee, which is tasked with addressing issues related to PSM lands.
Furthermore, the PSM management sought assistance from the federal and Sindh governments in resolving land-related issues, which include removing encroachments in Pakistan Steel Township, canceling illegal allocations in Gulshan-e-Hadid Phase III, and ensuring proper allocation of lands owned by PSM.
Pakistan Steel Township is a suburb spanning 8,126 acres where Pakistan Steel Mills' employees reside, with subsidized rents provided for essential workers. It is located on the N-5 National Highway, extending from Karachi eastward to Thatta.
Among the requests made to the federal government is the redefinition of the outer boundary of Pakistan Steel Township and the allocation of alternative land for the pending petroleum tanker terminal.
The PSM Board of Directors expressed support for the establishment of an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) or Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on PSM lands, as proposed by the SIFC's top committee. It called for the convening of the SIFC's top committee in the presence of the Sindh Chief Minister to take steps towards reclaiming thousands of acres of land.
