Minister Şimşek and Central Bank Governor Erkan to discuss cooperation and investment opportunities in Spain

Turkey's Minister of Treasury and Finance Lütfi Elvan Şimşek will travel to Spain with Hafize Gaye Erkan, Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, to attend investor meetings and conferences in the capital Madrid. Şimşek will meet with senior executives of more than 80 Spain-based global companies with a total turnover of more than 600 billion euros during the events on December 14-15.

During the visit of Minister Şimşek, the cooperation of Turkish-Spanish companies in third countries will be discussed. Opportunities in markets where the companies of both countries are strong will be evaluated, so that Turkish companies will have the opportunity to do more business in Latin America and Spanish companies will have the opportunity to do more business in the Turkish Republics and Caucasus.

Within the scope of the visit, meetings will be held with Nadia Calvino Santamaria, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise of Spain. In addition, meetings will be held with Pablo Hernandez de Cos, President of the Bank of Spain and the Basel Committee for Banking Supervision.

This visit is also important for Turkey-EU relations as Spain holds the rotating presidency of the EU. Spain, which supports Turkey's EU membership process, stands out as one of the countries calling for the updating of the Customs Union agreement between Turkey and the EU. Minister Şimşek emphasized that Turkey and the EU are stronger together and stated that they want to reconnect Turkey to the EU in a strong way. The visit is seen as part of Turkey's efforts to continue its dialog with global investors and strengthen economic cooperation.
