Local buyers seem indecisive, while prices for May contracts are uncertain as no deals have been concluded so far this month. In line with hot rolled coil values, HDG and CRC prices seem to be on a downward trend. High volumes are not expected until the Made in Steel exhibition in Milan this week.
In Italy, the latest deals at the end of April showed HDG and CRC basis delivery levels of €920-950/tonne ($1,008-1,041) depending on the producer, down from the peaks of €970-990/t seen in early April.
Producers are offering relatively long lead times between July and September. Meanwhile, HRC prices are hovering around €810-840/t ex-base.
Some import offers have started to re-emerge in Italy and Spain for Asian HDG at €860-870/t cfr.
Currently, Eastern European countries such as Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic continue to drive demand in Europe, where HDG selling prices from Italy and other EU countries are at €970-980/t ex-UK.
