Mosud Mannan, the newly appointed Ambassador of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to Turkey, visited Muammer Ömeroğlu, Chairman of the Board of Istanbul Industrialists' and Businessmen's Associations (İSFED).
Explaining that they talked about what can be done to increase the trade volume between the two countries during the visit, Ömeroğlu said, “There is a trade volume of approximately 1 billion dollars between our country and Bangladesh. A significant part of this figure comes from foreign sales of textile machinery, food and packaging. The population of the country has exceeded 160 million and a significant part of this volume consists of young people. We need to increase the trade volume in the region to at least 5 billion dollars.” said.
Noting that the trade with India and Myanmar will increase depending on the increase in investments in Bangladesh, Ömeroğlu emphasized that the country is in a strategic position in South Asia.
Expressing that they want to make all purchases in the defense industry from Turkey, Mosud Mannan said that they will establish a special industrial zone for industrialists in Turkey in this area. Underlining that they want to increase the trade volume between the two countries to 2 billion dollars, Mannan said, “We are planning to switch to the preferential tariff system. Discussions are ongoing between the ministries of the two countries on this issue. We will achieve this target in the short and medium term.” used the phrases.
