Import prices in the USA fell short of expectations

While the import price index in the USA increased by 0.6 percent monthly in May below the market expectations, the export price index increased by 2.8 percent exceeding the forecasts.

The USA Department of Labor announced the import and export price indices for May.

Accordingly, the import price index in the country increased by 0.6 percent in May compared to the previous month. The import price index, which increased less than expected, was expected to increase by 1.1 percent in this period. The index had increased by 0.4 percent in April.

The import price index increased by 11.7 percent in May compared to the same period of the previous year.

The export price index in the country increased by 2.8 percent on a monthly basis in May. In this period, the increase in the export price index, which exceeded expectations, was estimated to be 1.3 percent. The index had increased by 0.8 percent in April as well.

The export price index increased by 18.9 percent in May compared to the same period of the previous year, at a record level.
