According to SteelRadar data, Romania recorded a 34.3% drop in January, Poland a 16.5% monthly drop, the Netherlands a 9.9% monthly decrease, while some countries recorded increases, such as Hungary by 10.2%, Germany by 2.7% and Sweden by 2.4%.
In Germany, rebar traded at €645 as of March 11, down €8 from €653 in the first week of March, reflecting a downturn in Germany's rebar market. In Poland, in the north of Europe, the situation continued to remain stable, with rebar prices trading at €635 in the week to March 18, down €8 from €643 in mid-February, SteelRadar data recorded.
The situation was more stable in Southern Europe. The rebar market in Spain, which last traded at €605 on February 26, is still trading at the same price, while rebar prices in Italy, which were trading at €595 for some time, were down €5 to €590 in the week to March 18.
Sources told SteelRadar that average EU construction output in 2023 was 0.1% higher than in the previous year, while EU construction volumes in 2024 are expected to decrease by 0.4% compared to 2023, with a further 2% increase in 2025.
