World crude steel production decreased by 2.2% in February

World crude steel production in February 2026 decreased by 2.2% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 141.8 million tons (Mt).

World crude steel production decreased by 2.2% in February

World Steel Association (WorldSteel) stated the crude steel production figures for February 2026. According to the report, production in 69 countries decreased by 2.2% year-on-year to 141.8 Mt.

Africa’s crude steel production increased by 4.7% to 2.0 Mt in February. In the Asia and Oceania region, production decreased by 1.9% to 105.3 Mt. The EU (27) recorded a 3.6% decrease with 9.8 Mt, while other regions of Europe saw an increase of 3.1%, reaching 3.4 Mt.

Crude steel production in the Middle East increased by 0.1% to 3.7 Mt, and in North America it increased by 0.5% to 8.5 Mt. Production in Russia, other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, and Ukraine decreased by 10.5% to 6.0 Mt. South America produced 3.1 Mt, a 7.7% decrease.

Decrease continues in China’s production

China’s crude steel production in February 2026 is estimated to have decreased by 3.6% year-on-year to 76.1 Mt. In the same period, India’s production increased by 7.7% to 13.6 Mt, and the United States’ production increased by 5.8% to 6.5 Mt.

In February, Japan’s crude steel production remained unchanged at 6.4 Mt, while South Korea’s production increased by 0.2% to 4.8 Mt. Russia’s production is estimated to have decreased by 10.2% to 5.0 Mt.

During this period, Türkiye’s production increased by 3.4% to 3.0 Mt, and Germany’s production increased by 4.8% to 2.8 Mt. Brazil’s production decreased by 5.7% to 2.5 Mt, while Iran produced 1.7 Mt, a 1.3% decrease.
