IIT Hyderabad and Jindal Steel forge new partnership for advanced steel technologies

Jindal Steel and IIT Hyderabad to establish a joint centre for advanced steel technology development

IIT Hyderabad and Jindal Steel forge new partnership for advanced steel technologies

Jindal Steel, one of India’s leading steel producers, and the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) have entered into a new partnership aimed at accelerating the development of advanced steel solutions. The two institutions have agreed to establish a Centre of Excellence on the IITH campus.

The centre, which will be funded by Jindal Steel, will focus on developing applications to expand the use of high-strength and value-added steel products across various industries. Alongside research and development activities, the centre is expected to host technical demonstrations, training programmes and joint projects with industry stakeholders.

The solutions developed at the centre are expected to target sectors including infrastructure, construction, heavy engineering, energy, defence, transportation and industrial equipment. The initiative aims to reduce material consumption and structural weight, accelerate production and installation processes, and improve product service life through the use of higher-strength steel.

Strengthening university-industry collaboration will also be a key part of the partnership. The centre will provide internship and employment opportunities for students while supporting joint training programmes, technical workshops, academic initiatives and demonstration projects. Collaboration with designers, engineering firms, EPC companies, equipment manufacturers and other industry stakeholders is also expected.

Jindal Steel and IITH aim to move newly developed steel solutions beyond laboratory environments and accelerate their adoption in real-world projects, supporting more efficient steel use across India’s infrastructure and industrial sectors.
