According to the final data from the Census Bureau of the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported a total of 68,400 tons of hot rolled steel bars in August this year, down 20% compared to the previous month. This figure indicates an increase of 6.8% compared to the same month a year ago.
Imports from Canada had the largest share, reaching 31,000 tons, up 9.7% month on month and 14.3% year on year. Other main import sources were Mexico with approximately 12,000 tons, Japan with 9,100 tons, France with 4,500 tons and Germany with 4,000 tons, respectively.
During this period, the value of imports amounted to US$94 million, down 20.4% m-o-m and up 26.2% y-o-y.
