Türkiye's scrap imports increased by 36.3% in January 2024 compared to the same period last year, reaching 1,852.88 tons, according to SteelRadar's analysis based on Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data. In the same period last year, this figure was 1,359.30 tons.
Additionally, an increase of 11.59% was recorded in scrap imports compared to the previous month, December 2023. Türkiye did not change its import route in January either.
It was observed that EU countries constitute 65.15% of Türkiye's scrap imports. Imports from EU countries increased by 59% compared to January of the previous year, reaching 1,207,162 tons.
Following EU countries, the USA ranked second in Türkiye's scrap import rankings. Imports from the USA increased by 44.9% to 356,249 tons. However, imports from the United Kingdom decreased by 3.6% to 124,994 tonnes.

While Russia was in fourth place with scrap imports of 51,947 tons in January, there were no imports in the same period last year. Israel, on the other hand, fell to fifth place in scrap imports, with a decrease of 59.6% to 30,136 tons.
