Türkiye Maintains Its Leading Position in Scrap Imports

In the first half of the year, Türkiye ranked first in global scrap imports with an impressive performance, importing 9 million 610 thousand tons. India ranked second with 5 million 250 thousand tons of imports, while the US ranked third with 2 million 500 thousand tons.

According to research, Türkiye ranked first in global scrap imports in the first half of the year with an impressive performance, importing 9 million 610 thousand tons. India ranked second with 5 million 250 thousand tons of imports, while the US ranked third with 2 million 500 thousand tons.

In scrap imports, which continued in the same order in January and February, the difference between India and Türkiye increased in March. While Türkiye imported 1 million 359 thousand tons of scrap in January, India reached 1 million 281 thousand tons, approaching Türkiye's import volume. In February, Türkiye's scrap imports decreased by 10 percent to 1 million 228 thousand tons, while India's imports decreased by 14 percent to 1 million 107 thousand tons.

"Record Increase in March"

However, Türkiye's scrap imports jumped sharply in March, rising by a record 91 percent to 2,341,000 tons. India's imports, on the other hand, fell by 19 percent to 895,000 tons. India's scrap imports in June halved compared to May.

Other countries, which are among the world's most important scrap importers, were also ranked prominently

South Korea imported 2 million 120 thousand tons, Vietnam 1 million 820 thousand tons, Taiwan 1 million 750 thousand tons and Bangladesh 1 million 80 thousand tons.
Scrap imports are an indicator that can change in parallel with the development of the global economy and industries, and such data usually provide information about the industrial activities and economic growth of countries.
