According to the data published by the Turkish Steel Producers Association for February, the numerical data on long products showed a low course. Long products, especially needed in the field of construction, showed a decrease of 18 percent in last February compared to the same period of the previous year, and 1.604/t long product production was realized in February.
When the consumption data of long products is analyzed, it was noted that there was an 11 percent decrease compared to the same period of the previous year.
When the import and export data of long products are analyzed, it is seen that the export data is 440,959/t with a decrease of 50.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, and the import data is at the level of 139,802/t with a decrease of 14,8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. .
Efforts are being made to repair the damage in the region due to the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake on February 6, which affected the whole of Turkey. Due to the long product needs of activities such as rebuilding and repair in the disaster area, production and consumption data for long products are expected to increase in the coming months.
In the earthquake region, where one third of Turkey's iron and steel production is met, as a result of the disaster, production-related factors such as production activities, workforce and financial opportunities were adversely affected. In this process, the facilities that interrupt production are only recovering. When all conditions are taken into account, it is highly probable that the costs per ton of long products will increase.
On the other hand, after the earthquake disaster, organized by the Ministry of Commerce and including TOKİ officials, “350 thousand residences will be build again next year. It was stated by TOKİ officials that it is planned to be built and within this framework, there is a need for 5 million tons of steel products, including 3 million tons of rebar, 750 thousand tons of wire mesh, 1 million 250 thousand tons of steel sheet, and that the amounts requested by our member organizations can easily be met from the domestic market".
According to the February data announced by the Turkish Steel Producers Association, long product export costs, which were $349,121, decreased by 50 percent compared to February of last year. In import data, the current situation shows a decrease of 5.8 percent. Considering the construction and repair costs designed as of March, a decrease in import figures and an increase in export figures are expected in the upcoming periods.
