The Trump administration has expanded existing tariffs to cover hundreds of additional products. The US Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security announced in a Federal Register notice published on Friday that 407 new product codes have been added to the US Harmonized Tariff Schedule and that these products will be subject to tariffs based on their steel and aluminum content.
The notice also stated that customs duties currently applied to goods from certain countries for non-steel and non-aluminum components will remain in effect.
The expanded tariffs took effect on August 18. President Trump told reporters that he would make further announcements in the coming days regarding new tariff decisions targeting steel tariffs and semiconductor imports.
