According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) the USA imported 2,736,000 tons of steel in May 2022 (up 0.2 percent and 3.1 percent, respectively, from April 2022).
Total finished steel imports increased by 18.4% and 40.8% respectively compared to 2021. It is estimated that the final steel import market share will be 25% in May and 24% in the first five months of 2022.
The largest US steel suppliers in May were: Canada - 632,000 tons (+3% from April), Mexico - 482,000 tons (+23%), South Korea - 233,000 tons (- 7%), Turkey -155,000 tons ( + 70%) and Brazil - 128,000 tons (- 47%).
