State of Emergency declared in Kazakhstan

A state of emergency (OHAL) was declared across the country after the protests against the fuel hike turned into clashes and demonstrators stormed government buildings.

State of Emergency declared in Kazakhstan

Protesters in Kazakhstan tried to tear down the statue of the country's first President, Nursultan Nazarbayev, by tying ropes. The protests, which started after the government hiked liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices, continued despite the government's resignation.

Angry protesters in Taldykorgan tried to tear down the statue of the country's first President, Nursultan Nazarbayev, by tying ropes.

Kazakhstan President Kasım Cömert Tokayev, who tried to appease the protesters, announced in a televised speech that he had taken over the Presidency of the National Security Council from former leader Nursultan Nazarbayev.

A state of emergency was declared for two weeks in the oil-rich Mangistau region of Almaty and the capital Nur-Sultan. In this context, it was decided to impose a curfew in Nursultan between 23.00 and 07.00 local time.
