20 countries account for approximately 90% of world steel production and 85% of global exports.
China will remain the world's largest steel exporter in 2022. In addition, the supply of Chinese steel products to foreign markets may increase from 66.9 million tons in 2021 to over 67 million tons. This is due to some reduction in apparent steel consumption due to summer restrictions.
Japan will take second place, but exports will fall to around 28.7 million tons compared to 30.6 million tons in 2021. Japanese companies strengthened their position in the European market, but reduced their supply to Asian countries, despite the relatively high competitiveness of their products.
South Korea will also reduce its steel exports from 24.3 million tons in 2021 to 23.2 million tons, but will rank third due to the decline in Russian supplies.
Indian steel exports will decline by about 45%, from 18.5 million to 10.2 million tons.
