SAIL more than doubles first-quarter net profit

India's state-owned steel producer Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) more than doubled its consolidated net profit in the first quarter (April-June) of the 2026-27 fiscal year, supported by improved operational efficiency and disciplined cost management, while reporting higher revenue despite slight declines in production and sales volumes.

SAIL more than doubles first-quarter net profit

The company's consolidated net profit increased to more than INR 1,644 crore in the quarter ended June 30, 2026, compared to INR 744.58 crore recorded in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. During the same period, total revenue rose to INR 26,451.21 crore, while total expenses declined to INR 24,146.32 crore.

Commenting on the results, SAIL Chairman and Managing Director Ashok Kumar Panda stated that the strong financial performance was driven by improved operational efficiency, prudent cost management and focused marketing strategies.

On the operational side, the company reported slight weakness. Crude steel production totaled 4.76 million mt, while steel sales reached 4.16 million mt during the quarter. Despite ongoing global uncertainties, SAIL expressed confidence in maintaining its operational performance and benefiting from continued strong domestic steel demand in India.
