Negative sentiment is increasing in the European HRC market

The sentiment in the European spot hot rolled coil market was rather negative on 14 July due to limited demand and a slowdown in seasonal activity.

Negative sentiment is increasing in the European HRC market

Offers from integrated plants in Northwest Europe were limited as some of them had full order books until October. Planned maintenance works during the summer months and high demand from the automotive sector ensured full order books.

Market participants estimated HRC prices from producers in the Ruhr area at EUR660-680/mt ex-Ruhr, while offers of EUR650-660/mt were heard from Northwest European producers outside the Ruhr area.

Some market sources believe that mills, including those in Germany, are ready to offer discounts below EUR 650/mt ex-works for larger volumes.

In Northwest Europe, hot rolled coil prices decreased by EUR 5/mt on 14 July to EUR 660/mt ex-works in the Ruhr region.

In Southern Europe, hot rolled coil prices ex Italy stood at EUR 655/mt on 14 July, unchanged from the previous day.

Commercial prices ex-Italy were quoted at 650-660 EUR/mt, while offers approached 700 EUR/mt ex-Italy.
