Manisa OIZ problem solved with a new project

With the partnership of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality and Manisa Organized Industrial Zone, a new project was signed to solve the problems arising from the OIZ Junction in Manisa.

Manisa OIZ problem solved with a new project

The project, called “OIZ Junction Different Level Intersection Application Project”, was signed by Manisa OIZ Chairman of the Board Sait Cemal Türek and Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cengiz Ergün.

“There Will Be Relief in Traffic During Working Hours”
Making statements about the protocol, President Ergün said, “Manisa Organized Industrial Zone Junction; Our city center occupies an important place due to its close relationship with the OIZ, İzmir and Manisa Ring Road. The location of our city is also of special importance due to its growing and developing industry and, accordingly, being at a central point of the transportation network to both the Aegean Region and industrial cities. Our junction project, whose protocol we will sign today, is located in a part of our city that is dense in terms of industry, education, social, security and trade areas, as of the current situation. These situations we have mentioned show that the need for transportation between industry and the city center is one of the nodal points. At the intersection in our project, there is a 4-phase signalized intersection serving the existing traffic. This junction, located in the southwest of the city, not only provides transportation in the direction of Izmir, but also gains importance with its proximity to the Manisa Ring Road, which passes through the north of the city.

One Way Underpass Designed
The fact that most of the companies in the Organized Industrial Zone use this intersection with their service vehicles and that the density is constantly high in both directions from İzmir-Manisa city center, creates negativities in terms of traffic at this intersection. Since it is one of the last points that provides the discharge of the city, especially in the direction of İzmir and the ring road, some problems arise at this point. We have planned an underpass of approximately 42 meters in length and 8 meters in width for the uninterrupted progress of vehicles going from the OIZ to Manisa, where the density is highest. This underpass was designed as one-way and one-lane. The slopes of the underpass entrance and exit ramps are 6 percent and 6.50 percent, respectively, which is an ideal slope for the standards of the General Directorate of Highways. I would like to point out that the lengths and heights of the side walls will also be applied at a minimum level since the topography of the existing land is also utilized. An at-grade bow-tie intersection is planned in the direction of Manisa city center, about 300 meters ahead, so that the vehicles going from İzmir to the Manisa Organized Industrial Zone can proceed in an uninterrupted and controlled manner. At the same time, this intersection can be used to reach the neighborhoods southeast of Mimar Sinan Boulevard from the direction of Manisa.”

Connection Roads to the City Opened
Saying that the project has existed for a long time, OIZ President Türek said, “Our region had financed K1, K2 and K3 interchange road crossings in cooperation with the Highways at that time. With the figures 13 years ago, Manisa OIZ covered the cost of around 12 million. It took the burden of the Organized Industrial Zone on this road quite a bit. Connections to the city were opened from 2-3 different points on that line. Mehmet Akif Ersoy Boulevard became the main artery. Our city is in a troubled place in terms of location. One side is mountain and the other side is river, area is limited, population density is high. There should be an entrance and exit worthy of our Manisa, our metropolitan city. Hopefully, we will make the entrance part beautiful with the signature we will put together today. Hopefully, we will lay the foundation of the Ankara-İzmir-Istanbul (Gediz) Junction in the ring road project before the end of the term.”
