The Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) began implementing new metal scrap import regulations on January 10.
According to the new standard, ferrous scrap imports must contain at least 94.75% iron and steel and no more than 0.25% nonmetal consistency. It is not considered as electrical and electronic scrap by MITI.
Also, aluminum and copper are required to contain the same percentages of content, resulting in a ban on imports of coated wire and cable scrap and creating uncertainty for mixed and shredded grades containing printed circuit board parts.
