Leaks in Russian gas pipelines alarmed the Western countries

Gas leaks were detected in the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines, which carry Russian gas to Europe via the Baltic Sea.

Leaks in Russian gas pipelines alarmed the Western countries

In Danish Armed Forces' statement, it was reported that there were 2 leaks in the Nord Stream 1 pipeline northeast of Bornholm Island, and 1 leak in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline south of Dueodde.

Two submarine leaks that began Monday at Russian-owned Nord Stream gas pipelines were likely caused by powerful underwater explosions, according to Swedish and Danish seismographic data.

Some European leaders and experts point to possible sabotage during an energy crisis with Russia, provoked by the war in Ukraine.

NATO is following reports of leaks in Russian Nord Stream gas pipelines from the Baltic Sea with great concern, Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday.

Stoltenberg stated that "Russia should know that nuclear war cannot be won" and that it is not possible for Moscow to actually deploy its nuclear arsenal.

Reiterating NATO's support for Ukraine in the face of this "brutal aggression" by Russia, Stoltenberg underlined that NATO should continue to react.
