Jindal Shadeed buys Omani Sohar Steel

Built in 2008, Sohar Steel stopped production in March 2022. The company owns a mini-factory with an annual capacity of 600,000 tons of steel and 500,000 tons of rebar, and the Sharq Sohar rolling mill with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons of rebar.

Both facilities are located in the Sohar Free Zone. Sharq Sohar will also start wire rod production in the coming months. Also in June 2022, information appeared that the company will build another mini-factory in the same Sohar region.

Jindal Shadeed steel production capacity is estimated at 2.4 million tons per year. The company produces marketable square and round billets and can receive up to 1.4 million tons of rebar per year. In November, JSIS started the construction of the pellet plant with a capacity of 6 million tons per year, which is scheduled to be launched in 2024.
