According to newly released statistics, Japan's ferrous scrap exports in August this year amounted to around 545,300 tons, down 8.8 percent month on month, the second month in a row.
Among them, exports to South Korea accounted for about 69% of the total volume, reaching the highest level since March 2019 at around 374,000 tons, up about 21% month on month.
However, exports to other countries such as Vietnam, Taiwan and China did not perform as well as before due to low demand and uncompetitive prices.
The reason for the monthly decrease in Japan's scrap exports in August was the decrease in international demand and the priority of Japanese scrap exporters to domestic demand in this period.
