The WTO is establishing a group to settle the dispute between Japan and China over China's duties on Japanese stainless steel plate. This was reported by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
The Chinese government imposed anti-dumping duties on stainless products from Japan, South Korea, Indonesia and the European Union in July 2019. At the same time, the Japanese government tried to change China's stance on this matter, but was unsuccessful. In August 2021, the conflict was brought before the WTO.
It is assumed that the WTO will thoroughly examine the matter and ask China to change or cancel antidumping duties on Japanese stainless steel if they are unauthorized. However, China can also appeal, so the whole process may take several years.
