The Turkish steel industry is having a stagnant week. Before the Eid al-Fitr, which will start on April 19, silence prevails in the market. In addition, the upcoming general elections have further increased economic uncertainties. Therefore, commercial activities take place at a minimum.
Import scrap prices, which were $440 in the first week of April, were traded at $428 on April 12 and $418 on April 13. Prices, which rose to $425 on April 14, rose to $430 as of April 17. However, the market is still calm. The exports of the factories are also quite weak.
While Lme scrap prices are also trading in the band of $425-430, market representatives predict that scrap prices will not change much in the coming days, and will continue at these levels.
