Türkiye's crude steel production will reach 36.9 million tonnes by 2024, with EAF accounting for 25,836 tonnes and BOF for 11,057 tonnes.
Türkiye has 41 steel production facilities, with 3 operating as Basic Oxygen Furnaces (BOF), 27 as EAF, and 11 as induction furnaces. Only Erdemir, İsdemir, and Kardemir from the Oyak Group use the BOF process, whereas other steel companies choose the electric arc furnace (EAF) method.
SteelRadar analyzed data from the Turkish Steel Producers Association (TÇÜD) and found that in 2024, Türkiye's steel output with EAF will increase by 7% to 25,836 mt from the previous year. During the same period, BOF production climbed by 15.7% to 11,057 mt.
In prior years, EAF production was 20,905 mt in 2010, but declined by 2% to 20,482 mt in 2015. Production using the BOF approach climbed by 34% over the same period. EAF output climbed by 16% in 2021 to 28,902 mt from 24,782 mt in 2020, making this the year with the highest EAF production. However, EAF production fell to 24,153 mt in 2023, a 3.9% decline from 25,124 mt in 2022. During the same time period, BOF output declined by 4.5%, from 10,011 mt in 2022 to 9,560 mt in 2023.
As of 2024, both EAF and BOF production have increased. BOF production is up 15.7%, while EAF production has climbed by 7%. According to the data, the Oyak Group has boosted crude steel output. This shows that the company's production capacity has increased, and production using the BOF technology has increased its share of steel production in Türkiye.
In Türkiye, production with BOF climbed by 15.7% while production with EAF increased by 7% by 2024
While crude steel output in Türkiye continues to rise on an annual basis, production using EAF, the most popular technique, climbed by 7% in 2024.
