Malaysia has announced that it will increase the electricity surcharge by more than 400% from January to June next year. Malaysian steelmakers urged the government to implement a progressive electricity tariff.
Recently, Thailand's Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) announced that it would increase electricity prices for non-household utilities by 20.5% from January to April next year to 5.69 baht per unit to help the country's state-run electricity generation bureau reduce losses.
Thai steelmakers in Thailand will face higher pressure on electricity costs next year. According to sources, the cost of steel melting in an electric arc furnace in Thailand will increase by about 1,000 baht/ton, while Thai rolling mills will face an additional cost of about 300 baht/ton.
