Germany's steel production increased in june

German steel production increased by 8.9% in June 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. With this increase, Germany produced 3.19 million tons of steel. This amount remained at the same level as steel production in May. According to the German Steel Association WV Stahl, steel production in converters increased by 4.1% yearly and 2.7% monthly to 2.17 million tons in June. Electric arc furnaces produced 1.01 million tons of steel, up 20.8% yearly and 6.3% monthly.

Cast iron production, on the other hand, increased by 4.4% yearly and decreased by 1% on a monthly basis. Thus, cast iron production fell to 2.01 million tons. Rolled metal production in Germany amounted to 2.77 million tons, up 6.7% annually and 4.5% monthly.

In January-June 2024, Germany increased its steel production by 4.5% annually to 19.36 million tons. During this period, production in converters in Germany increased by 2.7% to 13.47 million tons. In electric arc furnaces, production increased by 8.7% to 5.88 million tons.

Steel production in the European Union in 2023 was 126.3 million tons, down 7.4% annually. In December, EU countries produced 9.1 million tons of steel, up 2.7% from the same period in 2023.
