According to the data, imports in 2022 increased by 35% y-o-y compared to imports from 2020 to 2022, but rising inflation and supply chain problems could cause European Union steel demands to decrease this year. In addition, Eurofer expects a demand growth of 1.6% for 2024.
In a statement by Eurofer, steel consumption in the third quarter of last year decreased by 11.2% to 32.2 million tonnes. Manufacturing activity increased by 4% in the third quarter, but weak demand remains.
Total steel imports decreased by 17.2% y-o-y due to constant variability in demand, the first decrease since 2021.
