Construction sector grew the most in the second half of the year

Erdal Eren, President of the Turkish Contractors Association (TCA), stated that the construction sector grew by 8.1 percent in the third quarter of this year, a rate above the country's economy, which grew by 5.9 percent.

Construction sector grew the most in the second half of the year

In his written statement, Eren reminded that despite global economic problems and geopolitical developments, the Turkish economy grew by 5.9 percent in the third quarter of 2023.

Stating that the reconstruction process, especially in the earthquake zone, enabled construction to be the fastest growing sector in the third quarter of the year, Eren said, "The construction sector, which makes the biggest contribution to employment in Turkiye and acts as a locomotive in the economy by creating demand for more than 200 sub-sectors, grew at a rate above the Turkish economy with 8.1 percent. Although the figures related to our sector are pleasing, the contractors working for the public sector in every corner of Turkiye continue to demand price difference, time extension and liquidation, which we have been voicing at every opportunity."

Eren stated that they demanded that the scope of the price difference regulation being discussed in the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye be expanded to include the works under construction in the earthquake zone and that the price difference be paid for the productions made this year due to high cost increases. Stating that he made a presentation to the TBMM Plan and Budget Commission in this context and that he believes that solutions will be produced with a constructive approach to the suggestions he presented on behalf of the sector, Eren said, "Until the process is completed, I will continue to follow the developments on the subject and to make the voice of our sector heard."
