Construction materials exports reached $2.57 billion in November

The Turkish Construction Material Industrialists' Association (Turkey IMSAD) announced the November 2022 results of the Foreign Trade Index prepared every month.

Construction materials exports reached $2.57 billion in November
According to the index, the construction materials industry realized one of the lowest monthly exports of the year with $ 2.57 billion in November. In the report, which keeps the pulse of the construction sector in foreign trade, it was stated that exports decreased by 5.8% compared to November of the previous year and the amount of exported products remained at the lowest level of 2022 with 4.04 million tons. The average export unit price in November was the highest figure of the year with 0.64 dollars / kg.

According to the index; The weakening in construction materials exports in September and October continued in November. In the report, the contraction in export markets was evident in November; While one of the lowest exports of the year in terms of value was realized, annual construction materials exports decreased to $ 34.1 billion.
The annual export unit price increased in November 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year
Exports of construction materials decreased by 5.8% compared to the same period of the previous year with $ 2.57 billion in November 2022. The amount of exports, which amounted to 4.04 million tons, decreased by 22.3% in November compared to November of the previous year. This amount attracted attention as the lowest export rate realized in 2022. While it was seen that the effect of the contraction in the markets was felt sharply, the average annual export unit price of the construction materials industry increased by 21.2% November 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year. 
While the average export unit prices in November 2021 were 0.53 dollars / kg, they were 0.64 dollars / kg in November 2022. In addition, the average export unit price increased compared to the previous month and was recorded as the highest average unit price of the year.
Exports of construction materials began to lose value in the last quarter of the year. Depending on the November 2022 export performance, annual (last 12 months) exports decreased to $ 34.1 billion in November. While the export amount decreased to 58.73 million tons, the average export unit price was 0.58 dollars / kg per year. 
The highest unit price of 2022 in imports was realized
In November 2022, construction materials imports stood at $ 875 million and amounted to 17.3% above November last year. In November 2022, construction materials imports were 270 thousand 605 tons. In terms of quantity, imports decreased significantly. The import unit price of the construction materials industry reached the highest level of the year with 3.23 dollars / kg in November 2022.
Export performance of sub-sectors is gradually deteriorating
In the report, which recorded that in November 2022, there were increases in value in only 3 of the 8 sub-sectors compared to the same month of the previous year, it was evaluated that the increases in the sub-sectors were mostly caused by unit price increases and decreases were seen in quantity. In November 2022, average export unit prices in all 8 sub-product groups were at a higher level than in November 2021. Although global commodity and final product prices have entered a downward trend, they are still above last year's prices.
There are big differences between unit prices
According to the report prepared by Turkey IMSAD; In November 2022, the average export unit price of mineral, stone and soil products increased by 24.2% compared to the same month last year. While the average export unit price of rebar and steel products increased by 5.8% compared to the same month of last year, the average export unit price of metal-based products increased by 7.6%, wood and wood products by 14.9 percent and chemical-based products by 1.4%. 
In November 2022, exports were below November last year in quantity in 6 of the 8 sub-product groups, while there was an increase in 2 sub-sectors. The reason for the decrease in quantity was shown as the base effect of the rise seen in the previous year. In November 2022, export decreases were 17% in rebar and steel products, 26.4% in mineral, stone and soil products, 18.7% in metal-based products and 21.8 in insulation materials. 
In November 2022, compared to November 2021, exports increased in value in 3 of the 8 sub-sectors. Export increases were 17.2% in chemical-based products, 2.6%% in wood and wood products, and 9.6% in electrical materials and equipment. Exports decreased by 12.2% in rebar and steel products and 12.5% in metal-based products. Again, exports of insulation materials in terms of value experienced a deficiency of 17.9% in November compared to the previous November.
