Four-month steel imports decreased by 3.7% y-o-y to 2.4 million tons.
Iron ore imports, on the other hand, increased in quantity and decreased in price in April. China imported 101 million tons of iron ore in April 2024, up 1.1% from the previous month. The average import price decreased by USD 12.8 per ton to USD 113.1 per ton. This indicates that despite the increase in the amount of iron ore imported, it was supplied at more favorable prices.
In the four-month period, iron ore imports increased by 7.2% y-o-y to 411 million tons.
Steel exports, on the other hand, decreased in April. China exported 9.2 million tons of steel in April 2024, down 6.7% from the previous month. The average export price also decreased by 6.2 USD to 777.6 USD per ton.
In the four months to April 2024, exports of steel products increased by 27.0% y-o-y to 35 million tons.
As a result, in April 2024, steel imports increased in terms of quantity and price, while iron ore imports increased in quantity and decreased in price. Steel exports, on the other hand, declined on a monthly basis.
