China warns of retaliation: “We will retaliate against countries that harm our interests”

China has announced that it will retaliate against countries that cooperate with the United States and undermine Beijing's interests.

China warns of retaliation: “We will retaliate against countries that harm our interests”

Coming at a time when global trade balances are becoming fragile, this statement indicates that the trade war between the world's two largest economies may affect a wider geography.

Following the news that the US President Donald Trump administration will force allied countries to limit their relations with China through tariffs, China's Ministry of Commerce issued a harsh statement. “China will not accept any deal at the expense of its interests. If this happens, China will reject it and will definitely respond,” the ministry stated.

This month, the Trump administration postponed major tariff hikes for some countries for 90 days, but raised tariffs on Chinese products by as much as 145%.

“The US is abusing tariffs”

Beijing is open to constructive cooperation with all parties and will continue to defend international justice and fairness, China's Ministry of Commerce noted in a statement. However, the US policy was described as “tariff abuse” and “unilateral bullying”.

The statement also added that China will not only protect its own interests, but also advocate for fair and balanced approaches to global trade. This development raised the possibility of the China-US trade tension spreading to third countries.
