Steel producers in Bangladesh have reduced rebar prices due to declining demand. Prices fell by Tk 7,500 (approximately USD 63) per ton on December 1-2. With this reduction, ex-mill prices fell to Tk 78,000-82,000 (USD 652-686) per ton, while retail prices range between Tk 84,000-85,000 (USD 702-710) per ton.
There was a decline of approximately 50% in sales between July and November. Steel producers are struggling with difficult market conditions, with losses averaging Tk 4,500 (around USD 38) per ton. The slowdown in demand has deepened, especially as public sector consumption has fallen to almost zero. Steel producers have been forced to reduce production by 50-60% in response to lower demand.
According to SteelRadar, Bangladesh's domestic rebar prices are currently hovering around Tk 80,000 (USD 669) per ton.
