Fluctuations in Benelux scrap prices

Benelux scrap export prices were on the rise, even local prices were falling.

Fluctuations in Benelux scrap prices

Benelux scrap export prices were higher but local prices were lower. Around mid-week, 25,000 tons of HMS 1&2 (80:20) and 15,000 tons of bonus product were traded at an average price of $424/t CFR, a Belgian source reported. Experts estimate the price for HMS 1&2 (80:20) in this transaction to be in the range of $415-416/t CFR. Moreover, another sale for HMS 1&2 (80:20) at $415-416/t was also heard from the Netherlands.

Assessments for HMS 1&2 (75:25) and HMS 1&2 (80:20) were raised by $12/t weekly and $3/t daily to $381/t FOB Rotterdam and $386/t FOB Rotterdam, respectively. In Asia, there were no scrap transactions due to low demand, while in Europe, offer prices increased during the week. European HMS 1&2 (80:20) was reportedly offered to India at $380-400/t CFR during the week.

Information revealed that HMS 1&2 (80:20) scrap prices exported from Benelux have increased by $12/t CFR since last Friday to $415/t CFR Türkiye. Scrap importers are expecting trade to pick up after the holiday week amid product needs for February shipments, sources pointed out.
