Five ports from Türkiye were included in the list of the “Top 100 Container Ports by Throughput”

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the number of Turkish ports on the list published by the UK-based maritime publication Lloyd’s List increased from 4 last year to 5 in 2024 data, with the addition of Aliağa Port.

Five ports from Türkiye were included in the list of the “Top 100 Container Ports by Throughput”

Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that this situation demonstrates Türkiye’s strength in maritime trade and the return on investments made in port infrastructure.

In the 2025 list, the rankings of the Turkish ports are as follows: Ambarlı Port 72nd, Kocaeli Port 86th, Tekirdağ Port 94th, Mersin Port 98th, while Aliağa Port, entering the list for the first time, is ranked 91st. Minister Uraloğlu stated that a total of 13.5 million TEU containers were handled nationwide in 2024, and these 5 ports accounted for 84.1% of the total, i.e., 11.4 million TEU.

At Aliağa Port, container throughput showed a significant increase; the volume, which was approximately 1.6 million TEU in 2023, rose by 33.6% in 2024 to about 2.1 million TEU. These developments stand out as concrete indicators of port investments that strengthen Türkiye’s position in global maritime trade.
