Far East iron ore market remained under downward pressure in June

A generally downward trend was observed in Far East iron ore spot markets during June, with varying levels of price decreases recorded across different countries and product categories.

China’s 62% Fe iron ore price decreased by 6.19%

China’s 62% Fe iron ore price, which stood at USD 113.00 on June 1, declined gradually throughout the month and reached USD 106.00 on June 24. The Chinese market recorded a net decrease of 6.19% during June, equivalent to a decline of USD 7.00.

South Korea’s 61% Fe prices recorded a sharp 8.57% decrease

South Korea was among the markets that experienced the most significant decline during June. The country’s 61% Fe iron ore price opened the month at USD 105.00 and decreased by 8.57%, equivalent to USD 9.00, reaching USD 96.00 as of June 24.

Indonesia and Japan markets showed stabilization at lower levels

Following fluctuations during the month, Indonesia and Japan recorded similar closing levels:

Indonesia: The 62% Fe iron ore price decreased from USD 108.00 on June 1 to USD 100.00 on June 24, marking a decline of 7.41% or USD 8.00 during the month.

Japan: Iron ore prices followed a similar trend to Indonesia, decreasing from USD 108.00 at the beginning of June to USD 100.00 on June 24, representing a decline of 7.41% or USD 8.00.

Australia’s 62% Fe iron ore market remained relatively resilient

Compared with other Far East markets, Australia recorded a more limited change during June. The country’s 62% Fe iron ore price stood at USD 102.45 on June 1 and closed at USD 100.50 on June 24 following fluctuations throughout the month. The monthly decrease was limited to 1.90%, equivalent to USD 1.95, indicating a more resilient performance compared to other regional markets.
