European CRC and HDG producers considering price increases

While European steelmakers want to increase flat steel prices, buyers are not yet convinced of a strong recovery as demand from end users is still weak.

European CRC and HDG producers considering price increases

Firm offers for cold rolled and hot dipped galvanised coil are still rare in Europe, as the market has not fully resumed after the summer holidays.

However, producers are reportedly targeting price increases, expecting restocking activities to support the recovery.

In Northern Europe, buyers' trade value estimates are standing between €750 ($811) to €770 per tonne ex-works for CRC and around €780-790 per tonne ex-works for HDG.

However, market sources said that weak demand from end-use sectors, including automotive and construction, is the biggest obstacle to a sustainable price increase.

The weekly price assessment for local cold rolled coil excluding Northern Europe increased by €10 from €750-760 per tonne on August 23 to €750-770 per tonne on Wednesday.

The weekly price assessment for local hot-dip galvanised coil excluding Northern Europe was €780-800 per tonne on Wednesday, unchanged since July 26.
