ArcelorMittal announces new solar power plant at its Neuwied facility

ArcelorMittal, has partnered with energy company ENVERIO to install a solar power plant on the roof of its service center in Neuwied, Germany. The plant will have an annual capacity of 4.1 million kWh, providing more than 50% of the facility’s energy needs.

ArcelorMittal officials, sharing details of the project, stated that the plant will meet more than half of the facility's annual electricity demand. Thanks to this green energy transformation, the facility's carbon footprint is expected to decrease by approximately 2,000 tons per year.

Felix Kerk, the Operations Director of ArcelorMittal Auto Processing Deutschland, expressed his thoughts by stating, "Our goal is to operate with zero emissions in Neuwied by 2030. This project is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to sustainable steel production."

The Neuwied facility stands out as one of ArcelorMittal's largest distribution centers in Europe. For 25 years, it has been producing high-quality steel sheets for the automotive and industrial sectors, and it will contribute to the company's goal of reducing CO2 emissions in Europe by 35% by 2030.

This initiative demonstrates that ArcelorMittal continues to invest in sustainability despite challenging market conditions. Although the company experienced a decline in net profit and production in 2023, it is continuing its green transformation projects without slowing down.

Operating in 60 countries and manufacturing in 18, ArcelorMittal continues to assert its leadership in environmentally friendly practices within the industry with this project. The solar power plant in Neuwied stands out as a significant component of the company's global sustainability strategy.
