A nuclear energy cooperation agreement has been signed between Türkiye and Canada.

Minister Bayraktar stated in a post on his social media account that they witnessed the signing of an agreement in Toronto with Canadian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson, which will establish a new foundation for international nuclear energy cooperation. The signed memorandum of understanding between the Turkish Nuclear Joint Stock Company (TÜNAŞ) and the Canada-based nuclear energy company AtkinsRéalis covers the development of nuclear power plants in Türkiye. Bayraktar emphasized that one of the most strategic elements of the agreement is the detailed evaluation of the applicability of CANDU reactor technology, whose reliability is proven worldwide, in Türkiye. The Minister expressed that the cooperation between the two countries will contribute to diversifying Türkiye’s energy mix and increasing its nuclear energy capacity.
