Trump stated that under the new agreement, Japan will invest USD 550 billion in the US “at my direction” and “open” its economy to US rice and automobiles.
In a statement on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated, “This agreement will create hundreds of thousands of jobs — something that has never happened before,” adding that the US will “continue to have a great relationship with Japan.”
Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba welcomed the agreement on Wednesday. Ishiba noted that strengthening bilateral cooperation would benefit both countries. Although Prime Minister Ishiba's ruling coalition does not hold a majority, he said he would remain in office to avoid creating a political vacuum and to address the U.S.'s impending tariff threats.
