Little Island is supported by 132 tulip-shaped concrete columns. The island is built between 4 and 19 meters above the Hudson River. It is covered with soil and plants. The project is signed by Thomas Heatherwick, the architect of Vessel, another famous structure in New York.
The landscape design of Little Island belongs to the famous New York firm MNLA. The park, which was built on giant tulip columns, offers a comfortable resting area to the visitors on the lawns adorned with 35 kinds of trees, more than 60 plants and 270 kinds of flowers.
Little Island was built on Pier 55, one of the smaller ports on the Manhattan peninsula. The Titanic, which departed from England, would have anchored here if it had not sunk. Even the survivors of the Titanic disaster landed in this port. The park, called Little Island, is connected to the Manhattan peninsula by two walkways. The park is open to visitors from 6 am to 1 am.
