According to data released by the World Steel Association, crude steel production across 69 countries stood at 153.4 million tons in April 2026. This figure indicates a 1.9% decrease compared to April 2025.
Following the 4.2% decrease recorded in March, the global production decline trend continued in April.
When evaluated on a regional basis, Africa’s crude steel production reached 2.1 million tons in April, showing an 11.5% increase compared to the same period last year. In Asia and Oceania, production was recorded at 114.2 million tons, reflecting a 1.3% decrease.
In the European Union (27 countries), production stood at 11.0 million tons, decreasing by 1.8%. In other European regions, production reached 3.6 million tons, increasing by 4.2%.
In the Middle East, crude steel production was 3.7 million tons, showing a sharp decrease of 27.6%. North America recorded 9.4 million tons of production, with a 6.9% increase. In the region covering Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and Ukraine, production decreased to 6.0 million tons, reflecting a 13.4% decline. In South America, production increased by 3.1% to 3.4 million tons.
At the country level, China’s crude steel production stood at 83.6 million tons in April, decreasing by 2.8%. India recorded 13.8 million tons of production with a 3.9% increase. The United States produced 7.2 million tons, increasing by 9.4%, while Japan reached 6.6 million tons with a 0.3% increase.
South Korea’s production increased by 4.8% to 5.2 million tons, while Russia recorded 5.0 million tons, decreasing by 12.4%. Türkiye produced 3.3 million tons, increasing by 9.4%. Germany reached 3.2 million tons, increasing by 9.5%. Brazil recorded 2.7 million tons with a 2.8% increase, while Vietnam’s production rose by 4% to 2.1 million tons.
