Why did Georgia's deliveries of ferroalloys to Russia stopped?

Why did Georgia's deliveries of ferroalloys to Russia stopped?

Due to the introduction of an anti-dumping duty in the Eurasian Economic Union, supplies of ferroalloys from Georgia to Russia have completely stopped.

The Eurasian Economic Commission decided to impose an anti-dumping duty on ferro silico manganese from Georgia at the end of 2022. The existence of dumping imports of goods coming from Georgia and direct economic harm to the EAEU are the causes. On January 25, 2023, the decision became final. The anti-dumping measure will be in effect for a period of five years. Depending on the manufacturer, the duty is set at 21.4–24.22% of the customs value.

Ferroalloys are among the ten export goods of Georgia.

In February of this year, ferroalloys were no longer supplied to Russia, which was one of the main sales markets.

Prior to the introduction of the duty, until January 25, ferroalloys worth $45.3 million were exported to the Russian market.

In February of this year, the export of ferroalloys amounted to only $20.8 million, which is 3.3 times less than in February 2022, when products worth $69.05 million were exported from Georgia.

In total, ferroalloys worth about $71.7 million were exported from Georgia in January-February 2023, which is 28.6% less than the same data for 2022.

At the same time, against the backdrop of falling demand for ferroalloys on the international market and a general decline in prices, and in the context of the anti-dumping duty for Georgia, some ferroalloy plants in the country have been closed for several months, some have reduced production and staff.
