WEF selects Hydnum Steel's green steel project as one of the 5 most innovative projects

Spain's Hydnum Steel (HS) has been recognized by the World Economic Forum's (WEF) First Movers Coalition as one of the five most innovative projects worldwide in the steel industry's race towards a more responsible and efficient steel industry.

Based on the principles of sustainability, digitalization and circular economy, the company's approach coincides with the key issues highlighted at the Davos Summit, where it was announced that the Puertollano plant, which focuses on the use of fossil fuel-free energy, will have a production capacity of 2.6 million tons/year and will create more than 1,000 jobs. With an investment of 1.65 billion euros, the plant is planned to be operational in 2026.

Siemens CEO Roland Busch highlighted the critical role of digitalization in the Puertollano plant, which is positioned as the first green steel plant in the Iberian Peninsula, and announced that they plan to optimize all stages from design to production with Digital Twin technology. In this way, energy consumption and resource use will be managed in real time, increasing efficiency and minimizing environmental impact.

Eva Maneiro, CEO of Hydnum Steel, stated that they aim to revolutionize steel production and emphasized the integration of renewable energy, green hydrogen and water saving. She stated that this project will contribute to Europe's energy independence and create new employment opportunities.
