Volvo uses boron steel in new model EM90

Volvo's eagerly awaited new model, the EM90, is only a short time away from going on sale. This electric MPV model of the brand seems to attract attention with safety and luxury features.

Volvo uses boron steel in new model EM90

The EM90 aims to improve the safety of the driver and passengers by equipping it with features such as high-strength steel and double pillars.

Volvo continues to promote the all-electric EM90 MPV ahead of its launch on 12 November and has previewed some of the safety features and luxury cabin. The EM90 will be Volvo's first entry into the MOV space, but with the model, the company is keen to become a class leader.

On the safety front, Volvo said the EM90 uses high-strength steel, including boron steel, in its structure to reduce the impact of collisions. A key element of the MPV's structure is the double A-pillars, which not only improve visibility but also contribute to the rigidity of the safety cage. Volvo wants to keep not only the occupants safe, but also the valuable battery pack that underpins the MPV.

"The EM90 is designed to provide comfort and tranquillity in Scandinavian style," said Erik Severinson, head of Volvo's global new car programmes, in a press release:

"A car that sets a new standard for modern luxury is a word that today is often interchangeable with 'quality of life'. At Volvo Cars, we are in a unique position to capitalise on this new mindset. We are Swedes after all, coming from a place that believes quality of life is as important as being alive."

The Volvo EM90 is based on the Zeekr 009, which is on sale in China. China will be the first market where the EM90 will be sold and local pre-orders will begin on 12 November.
