Volkswagen to establish battery systems factory in China

With this factory, the group will be the first sole owner of a battery system plant in China, according to Radio China International.

It has been announced that the production facility will have a production capacity of 150 thousand - 180 thousand high-voltage battery systems in the first stage. It was stated that the battery systems produced will be allocated to the fully electric vehicles produced on the platform of the VW Group in Anhui.

The battery factory will span an area of 45,000 square meters and will be built next to the Volkswagen Anhui production facility. Volkswagen Anhui is known to be the first fully electric vehicle production facility in which the VW Group has a majority stake. Volkswagen Group China will invest more than 140 million euros until 2025 for the new plant and additional arrangements. Actual production is foreseen in the second half of 2023.

The goal of the Volkswagen Group is to focus on battery systems, one of the most important components in this field, to maintain and further expand its international competitiveness, recognizing that we have entered the era of "electro mobility" on a global level.

It is expected that 40 percent of Volkswagen's total fleet in China will consist of electric vehicles by 2030.
