China’s 2mm and thicker SAE 1006 HRC offers fell from USD 540/ton CFR on October 11 to around USD 515/ton CFR Vietnam. Moreover, prices for 2-2.7 mm thick SAE grade HRC decreased by USD 10 from the previous week to around USD 510/ton CFR Vietnam.
In addition to these developments, it was reported that 20,000 tons of 2mm base SAE 1006 HRC from Japan were booked for December delivery at USD 530/ton CFR Vietnam. Last week, the offer for this product was at USD 535/ton CFR.
There was also a significant decline in offers for Q235 grade HRC in 3-12 mm thickness from China for delivery in late November. These offers have fallen to USD 500-505/ton CFR from USD 530/ton CFR in the week of October 11. Concerns about possible anti-dumping investigations into HRC originating in China are among the main reasons for this decline. This has caused customers to be hesitant to place new orders from China.
A trader in Hanoi said many customers are hesitant to buy November shipments due to uncertainty. Last Friday, a deal was reportedly struck from Vietnam for a 10,000-ton shipment of Q195 grade HRC in 3 mm base thickness at USD 495/ton CFR, down from the previous week’s offer of USD 525/ton CFR.
