U.S. weekly crude steel production increased by 8.8% year on year

U.S. crude steel production increased by 8.8% to 1.872 million net tons in the week ended May 30.

U.S. weekly crude steel production increased by 8.8% year on year

According to data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), U.S. crude steel production increased by 8.8% year on year in the week ended May 30, 2026.

Production totaled 1.872 million net tons during the week, while the capability utilization rate rose to 81.1%. In the corresponding week of the previous year, production was recorded at 1.720 million net tons, with a capability utilization rate of 76.6%.

On a weekly basis, production also posted a slight increase compared to the week ended May 23, 2026. Output rose by 0.1%, increasing from 1.870 million net tons to 1.872 million net tons. During the same period, the capability utilization rate edged up from 81.0% to 81.1%.

As of May 30, 2026, adjusted year-to-date U.S. crude steel production reached 38.925 million net tons. This represents a 6.8% increase compared to 36.461 million net tons produced during the same period last year. The year-to-date capability utilization rate stood at 78.6%, compared to 76.2% in the corresponding period of the previous year.

In terms of regional production, output for the week ended May 30 totaled 137,000 net tons in the Northeast, 495,000 net tons in the Great Lakes region, 321,000 net tons in the Midwest, 848,000 net tons in the South, and 71,000 net tons in the West. As a result, total weekly production reached 1.872 million net tons.
