The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced that US steel mills shipped 8.142 million net tons of steel in May 2026. This represented an 8.5% increase compared to 7.507 million net tons shipped in May 2025 and a 6.2% increase from 7.665 million net tons shipped in April 2026.
According to AISI data, total US steel shipments reached 38.991 million net tons during the January-May 2026 period, up 4.6% from 37.285 million net tons recorded in the same period of 2025.
By product category, shipments of corrosion-resistant sheet and strip increased by 13% year on year in the first five months of 2026, while hot-rolled sheet and strip shipments rose by 6%. In contrast, cold-rolled sheet and strip shipments declined by 1% compared to the same period last year.
